Beckstoffer To Kalon Vineyard

In the heart of Napa Valley lies the legendary Beckstoffer To Kalon vineyard, producing some of the world's finest Cabernet Sauvignon grapes. Its rich history dates back to the late 1800s when Hamilton Walker Crabb first planted grapevines on the land. Since then, To Kalon has become a symbol of Napa Valley's winemaking excellence and a testament to the enduring legacy of its founders. Today, the Beckstoffer family owns and manages the Beckstoffer To Kalon vineyard, investing in sustainable farming practices to ensure its success for generations to come. In 2007, the property was placed under a land conservation easement that forever prohibits non-agricultural development.

The exceptional reputation of the Beckstoffer To Kalon vineyard is due, in part, to its unique terroir. The soil is composed of gravelly loam and volcanic ash, providing excellent drainage and forcing the vines to work hard for water and nutrients. The cooling influence of the nearby San Pablo Bay moderates temperatures, creating ideal conditions for ripening the grapes slowly and evenly. The resulting grapes are deeply complex, with wines that are marvelously balanced and beautifully structured.

Beckstoffer To Kalon Cabernet Sauvignon grapes have garnered worldwide praise from wine critics and enthusiasts alike, earning it the reputation as the benchmark for Napa Valley Cabernet. Wine Spectator magazine named it "a California grand cru," while Robert Parker lauded it as "one of the greatest vineyards on earth." Jeb Dunnuck described it as "iconic" and hailed its wines as "hauntingly beautiful." Antonio Galloni called To Kalon "one of the most legendary vineyards in Napa Valley."

Beckstoffer Georges III Vineyard

Beckstoffer Vineyard Georges III, situated on the eastern edge of Napa Valley’s Rutherford AVA, has been one of the finest winegrowing sites in California for more than a century.

Georges III was originally part of a gift given to Elizabeth Rutherford by her grandfather, early Napa Valley settler George Yount. The first vines were planted by Rutherford in 1895, and the plot became known as Beaulieu Vineyard Number 3 after BV founder Georges de Latour purchased the site in 1928. For the next six decades, the 300-acre parcel was home to the BV wines crafted by André Tchelistcheff, which established Napa Valley Cabernet as some of the finest in the world. Beckstoffer Vineyards, Napa Valley’s preeminent grower, purchased the site in 1988, and it now consists of 251 planted acres of Cabernet Sauvignon.

Our 4 blocks at Georges III are positioned on slight uplifts and rolling knolls, which offer excellent drainage and facilitate early ripening. These vines, planted on Perkins and Cortina gravelly loam, produce some of the greatest Cabernet on the Napa Valley floor.

Now, 181 acres of Georges III are under a land conservation easement that forever prohibits non-agricultural development. We’re proud to make wine from what is—and what always will be—one of Napa Valley’s most revered sites for Cabernet Sauvignon.

Beckstoffer Melrose Vineyard

The Beckstoffer family's Melrose Vineyard is located on the Napa Valley floor in the Rutherford AVA. There are approximately 82 planted acres, including rare old vine Sauvignon Blanc.

One of the standout features of the Beckstoffer Melrose vineyard is its terroir. The soil is Pleasanton loam, which is rich in volcanic ash. The mineral content in the soil gives the grapes grown here their distinctive depth of flavor. The region's microclimate also plays a crucial role in shaping the grapes' character, with rolling hills, eastern-facing slopes, and sheltered pockets allowing for slow development and optimal maturation. The grapes produced here are renowned for their nuanced flavors, vibrant acidity, and balanced tannins.

The Beckstoffer Melrose vineyard has received numerous accolades over the years. In 2015, it was named "Vineyard of the Year" by Wine & Spirits magazine, a testament to the vineyard's exceptional quality and contribution to the wine industry. The vineyard has also been featured in prestigious publications such as Wine Spectator, Decanter, and Robert Parker's Wine Advocate.

The Perchance Estates dedicated rows are orientated North West x South East, providing them with optimal sun exposure. These old vine Sauvignon Blanc vines, planted in 1990, are spaced at a 495 vines per acre, and trained to a Lyre trellis system.

Beckstoffer Carneros Lake Vineyard

Nestled in the heart of Napa Valley's Carneros AVA, the Beckstoffer Carneros Lake Vineyard is a legendary estate renowned for producing exceptional grapes with distinctive character and flavor. The vineyard was acquired by the Beckstoffer family in 1993 and features 410 plantable acres of gravelly loam and volcanic ash soil, ideal for growing premium Chardonnay grapes. The Beckstoffer family employs sustainable farming practices, such as planting cover crops and reducing pesticide and fertilizer use, to ensure the long-term health and productivity of the vineyard for generations to come.

The Carneros AVA's distinctive climate and soil composition make it a prime location for growing Chardonnay grapes, and the Beckstoffer Carneros Lake Vineyard is strategically positioned to capitalize on these favorable growing conditions. Thanks to its position within the AVA, the vineyard benefits from cool coastal breezes and fog, as well as plenty of sunshine throughout the day. This cool climate is conducive to slow ripening and flavor development, resulting in grapes with high acidity and distinct flavors. These factors, coupled with the unique soil profile found in the area, are reflected in the wines produced by the vineyard which are celebrated for their exceptional depth, complexity, and balance.

Chardonnays from the Carneros AVA have garnered universal praise from wine critics and enthusiasts alike. Wine Spectator has consistently ranked the Carneros AVA as one of the top regions in California for Chardonnay grapes, Robert Parker's Wine Advocate called the Carneros AVA "one of California's greatest Chardonnay appellations" and Jancis Robinson called Carneros Chardonnays "one of the most thrilling expressions of the grape in California."
